Mike Collins hosts the popular Coaster Radio podcast where he talks with co-host E.B. about all things amusement parks, these are his good things.
Good things to read.
Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination by Neal Gabler. Even if you’re not a fan of Disney, you’ll be inspired by what he did to reinvent American entertainment and create pop culture icons that are still relevant today.
The Late Shift by Bill Carter. This is a fantastic behind the scenes look at the late night wars of the mid-1990’s and what went on when Dave Letterman and Jay Leno both wanted to host “The Tonight Show.”
Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich. A fascinating tale about an MIT card-counting team that look Las Vegas for millions – but ultimately paid a price.
Good things to watch.
It’s a Wonderful Life. Most people have seen this movie before, but have never really watched it from beginning to end. It’s great to watch outside of the holiday season to truly “get” the message.
The Goonies (with the commentary track). You’ll learn more than you ever thought you could about this classic 80’s movie with appearances from the entire cast. They’re all grown up, but you can see them having fun while watching the move together.
David Copperfield Live in Las Vegas. I’ve seen this show three times and I’m been amazed each time. The theater at the MGM Grand is small enough where you can see mind-blowing illusions closer than you normally would. Amazing stuff.
Good things to use.
IMDB App. Fantastic for trying to identify an actor that you know you’ve seen someplace before.
Morphie Juice Packs. I use my iPhone so much that I always drain the battery quickly. The extra battery life that the Morphie Juice Pack provides has bailed me out many times.
Svengali Card Deck. This is a trick deck of cards that lets you do amazing feats of magic. Pick one up and you’ll amaze your friends (and maybe make some new ones!)
